EUPL: will the licence be updated ?

A new overview on the European Union Public Licence and its impact was presented on 29 March 2012 at the 2nd OSEPA conference in Jihlava (Czech Republic).

After remaining the steps leading to the elaboration of the EUPL and explaining how its “interoperable copyleft” works, the presentation highlight the impact of the licence, which is now a part of the European Interoperability Framework and was implemented by several Member States.

The question of an EUPL update is in the air, in order to improve compatibility with some other licences and to facilitate the use of the licence by other international organisations.

Dear Velardo,

We plan to kickstart the revision of the licence in the coming weeks, however the whole procedure will take much longer than that.

Although I do not expect any radical changes (perhaps we'll end up with only the extension of the compatibility list), please note, that unfortunately, it will still be a very heavy procedure - e.g. internal discussions, translation into all official languages, public review, formal adoption, publication, etc -, which can easily take many months.

So, in short, the good news is we will start soon.

Kind regards,

Szabolcs Szekacs

Dear all, any ideas about when it will be updated? (if so...)
