[gvSIG-devel] JAI and 64 bit JVMs

Dear devs,

I am currently evaluating the possibility
of compiling a 64 bit version of gvSIG and came upon
a killer problem: there is no 64 bit version of
JAI for Windows (and there will most likely never
be one, due to licensing issues). However, it is
possible to use a Java-only version of JAI on
64 bit. This version does not come with native
libraries, so data access will be slower.

Thus my question: how much of JAI does gvSIG
actually use? Does it use this library for
actual data on disk access, or is GDAL used
for that and JAI only supplies the interface
and data structures?

Cheers,

Ben
