Description

The German federal defence forces (Bundeswehr) are financing an open source mobile application based on the Android platform, allowing military map marking symbols, defined in the Allied Procedural Publication standard (APP version 6), to be combined with geographic information systems. This open source application is called 'APP-6 Maker Mobile Symbol Edition. The examples of the target audience include NATO/PfP Partners, NGOs, fire departments, disaster relief management, etc.

Features

The project aims to leverage APP-6 compliant symbology for mobile applications. Geolocated information is key in military context and situational awareness. This application build on available Open Source project gvSIG Mini is the first step to provide an easy to use tool for a Common Operational Picture (COP). Other features: - Configuration for additional WMS server for military map integration. - Communication with APP-6 Maker backend server is configurable by host/port/user/password. - Filters by source (POI, IED , NFFI, TDL). - Filter by radius. - Easy configuration of additional additional APP-6 symbols for reporting.

Future plans

This is an ongoing project and the roadmap is currently under development and will be published in the near future.
