This workshop was the third event of the API4IPS series, where disparate API stakeholders gather to discuss relevant issues about technical, organizational, and governance API-related issues.
On this occasion, worldwide renowned API experts, policymakers, innovators, and practitioners from the private and public sector discussed APIs' role in current European regulatory contexts and those to come.

3:15 – 3:45: The European Data Strategy
Nestor Duch Brown, Research Leader at the Digital Economy Unit of the European Commission, Nestor presented the landscape of European data governance regulatory initiatives. Slides.
3:45 - 4:15: The state of GDPR portability
François Xavier CAO, co-founder of gdpr.dev presented the highlights of a study on the implementation status of Article 20 of GDPR (data portability). Slides.
4:15 - 4:45: Industry-led vs Regulatory led API regulations
Prof. Markos Zachariadis, Full Professor and Greensill Chair in Fintech & Information Systems (Alliance Manchester Business School), provided a comprehensive analysis of APIs' role in the banking/finance sector's innovation after the enforcement of PSD2. Slides.
4:45 - 5:45: Discussion panel: APIs' role in data regulatory processes

Mehdi Medjaoui, founder of APIDays Conferences, author of the book Continuous API management, and former co-founder of API Identity platform OAuth.io
Panellists:
- Kin Lane, author and influencer of apievangelist.com, Chief API evangelist at Postman, former presidential innovation fellow on APIs for the Barack Obama administration;
- Tyler Singletary, COO at Tagboard, former VP and director of Platform at Klout, expert and influencer on the politics of APIs and platforms;
- Mark Boyd, author, co-author of many Industry reports on APIs for Banking or APIs for Governments, and founder of the API economy analyst Platformable.com.
There were lively discussions around aspects such as:
- The limits to data portability and its implementation,
- The applicability of API neutrality concept in data governance processes,
- The value of data and how APIs can contribute to its distribution,
- Attitude towards the eminent regulation of the Technology sector.
