Network to connect with those in Romania and Serbia
The government of Bulgaria aims to finalise its plans to connect its broadband networks to those in neighbouring Romania and Serbia. A meeting is set for June, and will involve experts from the three countries, the European Investment Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Commission, announced Bulgaria’s Ministry for ICT.
According to the ministry, the project is to become a model for similar international communication network ventures.
The three countries started discussing plans to unite their networks last summer. “Investing in high-speed Internet in the border regions will allow the research, educational and public organisations in the three countries to develop common projects”, a 2015 announcement by the ICT ministry quotes the experts involved. The project will benefit cross-border eGovernment projects on healthcare, education and other services.
The interconnected networks will also help avoid problems by providing alternative routes for network traffic.
