Portugal’s eGovernment services reach Porto parishes

Portugal’s network of eGovernment services, Espaços do Cidadão (Citizen Spaces), has been expanded to include four civil parishes in the Porto metropolitan area, the country’s Agency for Administrative Modernisation (AMA) announced this week.

AMA added four new Citizen Spaces in civil parishes that are part of the municipality of Vila do Condo.

The Espaços do Cidadão offer access to various government services. Users can, for example, access services regarding employment, find healthcare services and social services, request official documents and renew their driving licences. When necessary, users are provided assistance in using the online services.

Portugal began its Espaços do Cidadão project in 2014, aiming to bring eGovernment services to the large part of the populations that does not have access to the Internet. AMA’s main partners are the municipal authorities and the national postal service CTT - privatised in 2014.

In total, AMA wants to implement 350 such Citizen Spots, 300 of which should be up and running before the end of next year. With the four new service points, there are now already 170 Citizens Spaces across the country.
