During 2012, the Norwegian Government will put forward a white paper on healthcare in the digital age. The paper will present how information and communication systems in the health sector (eHealth) can help to improve the quality of illness prevention and treatment, and patient rehabilitation and care.
The themes on which public input is sought include:
- Which web services should the healthcare sector offer to patients and healthcare professionals?
- How can the flow of health-related information between the treating healthcare professionals be improved?
- How can information and welfare technology help enable patients to live at home longer?
Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen, the Minister of Health and Care Services, said: "A growing share of information exchange in the healthcare sector is electronic, and new solutions are being employed. The national health portal will be further developed and is gaining new functionality. Electronic prescriptions are being introduced across the country, as well as national centralised medical records. These are examples of measures to improve patient safety and treatment, but there is more to come."
