ELISE Action Webinar on the governance models, ecosystems and benefits of APIs for public sector organisations

Today, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are emerging as a best practice for public sector organisations willing to make their data more re-used and re-usable and to develop public services based on third parties’ data. Public authorities, in general, are hence important providers and users of APIs. APIs also play a role in geospatial data sharing and data reuse, as they can be used to make map libraries and geographical information more accessible, while representing a user-friendly way of facilitating developers’ access to one of the most valued forms of public sector information.

In this context of strong and increasing API uptake, and based on literature available in this domain, this webinar presents an analysis of the benefits and challenges of APIs for public sectors providers and users of this technology. It also discusses which legal and technical best practices are emerging within the public sector and what are the biggest barriers for the development and reuse of APIs across public authorities.

The webinar is part of a series of “Rapid Studies” under the ELISE ISA² Action that aim to quickly engage with new topics of relevance to location interoperability, the digital transformation of government and socio-technical developments in this arena.

The webinar will take place on the 11/06/2019 from 14h to 15h.
