Cards to be used in presidential run-off on 22 May

Starting on 27 April, Austrian citizens can again order voting cards online, to vote in the presidential run-off on 22 May. To order voting cards, citizens can use either a secure signature solution on their smart-phone or their Citizen Card.

For citizens this saves time queuing at town halls to apply for voting cards; for the electoral authorities and municipalities, it saves EUR 2.20 per card in postage costs.

The second round in the Austrian presidential elections will take place on 22 May. Citizens can vote for the two candidates who received the most votes in the first round, on 24 April.

Austria’s Mobile Signature and eID card can both be used to prove identity and to sign documents. The Mobile Signature app works with all mobile phones. The use of the Citizen Card requires a card-reader.

Online ordering of voting cards is not yet supported in all municipalities. Citizens can check which municipalities offer the service at Austria’s eGovernment services aggregation portal, help.gv.at.
