The latest releases on the 2nd and 23rd of March 2020 (v1.57 & v1.58) for the Joinup collaborative platform include numerous improvements, features, bug and security fixes, all adding up to a friendlier and more enhanced user experience. Below we present the most interesting of these newly introduced changes.
Search like a pro
Joinup’s search functionality received a total revamp in the user-facing area. Given the platform’s vast depth and breadth of information, the need to easily locate and retrieve useful data was identified early on by both end-users and the Joinup Team. It was time we hit the drawing board…
The outcome? An intuitive re-design of the Search front-end interface that exposes the power of the underlying Search engine, offering users the ability to fine-tune their results by content type, collection/solution, policy domain, and geographical coverage. All these Search parameters are neatly grouped and displayed in a panel on the left side, allowing easy access and customisation of the search options.
The screenshot below shows all this in action.
But that’s not all! Joinup users will be thrilled to learn that they can now initiate a search from within a collection or solution in order to look up content that only resides there. The following screenshot provides such an example by applying a search for the keyword “eLearning” in the collection Digital Skills in the public sector.
Stay current with subscriptions
Wouldn’t it be great to receive notifications when something interesting happens in a collection? This is now possible thanks to Joinup’s new feature called “My subscriptions”. As a collection member you can now go to your subscriptions page and do the following:
- Set your notification delivery frequency (daily, weekly, monthly);
- View a list of the collections you’re subscribed to;
- Select which content types to receive notifications for;
- Unsubscribe from all notifications.
The feature is accessible by clicking on your avatar icon at the top right corner, and selecting the menu option “My subscriptions”. The screenshot below provides a glimpse of the subscriptions page.
RSS feed for solutions, too!
The RSS feed service is now available for Joinup solutions, too, giving users the ability to keep up with all the interesting things happening inside their favourite solution. As with collections, the RSS feed URL is accessible by entering a solution, clicking on the three-dot menu at the top right (under your account’s avatar icon), and selecting the menu option “RSS feed”. You can then use your preferred RSS Reader software to access – and subscribe to – the RSS feed content.
Many more improvements, features and bug fixes are part of these releases, adding up to a better user experience of the Joinup platform. Make sure to visit Joinup regularly, to find out about new and interesting things appearing on – or coming to – the platform.
The European Commission’s Joinup platform is developed publicly, and the source code is published on GitHub (a web-based hosting service for software version control) under the European Union Public Licence (EUPL).
