The Local Government Association (LGA) is about to update its map of shared services. The map aggregates all shared services for local governments in England, including their ICT and digital services. The map for 2017 shows that 33 local governments are sharing ICT services, have pooled access to their eGovernment services, jointly run communications network services, or are working together on ICT procurement.
The first category – shared ICT services – form the majority of results when “ICT and Digital Services” is selected on the 2017 map.
According to the LGA, nearly all councils (98 %) in England are sharing services. Examples include a joint customer contact centre shared by Hart District Council and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, and the ICT shared services centre for East Devon, Exeter and Teignbridge District Councils.
The LGA says it will soon make available the 2018 edition of this online map "Every year the Local Government Association produces an interactive map of shared services providing a compendium of council shared service and collaboration examples across England”, it writes.
Electronic delivery standards
The LGA is one of the Joinup partners, sharing its Effective Service Delivery (ESD) standards. The ESD and the ESD-Toolkit (renamed LG Inform) let public services benchmark, plan and track their services.
