One of the sessions of the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2014, taking place in Vienna, Austria, in late April and early May, is titled "Free and Open Source Software for Geoinformatics and Geosciences". The session will look at the growing role of free and open source Software in the geo-sciences.
The organisers write that the session will place emphasis on the interoperability among existing and future free and open source software tools within Geoinformatics. The session will be a forum for both the latest advances in free and open source software empowered research and also successful applications of existing free and open source software tools for geoscientific tasks. Also, this session will discuss issues relating to publication and citation of software and other conceptual contributions to scientific free and open source software.
