SDMX 2nd Basics training session
After the full booking of its first training session on 27-28 October 2011, Eurostat is organising another two - day training session for statisticians and for IT staff in general. The training session in question is aimed at people who are or will be in charge of managing SDMX-based transmission and dissemination of data and metadata, possibly using existing tools. For this reason, the course is also recommended as an introduction to SDMX for people who intend to follow the advanced course ‘SDMX for IT developers’.
The basics course provides a comprehensive description of the information model and the main SDMX objects, and it also includes practical hands-on sessions using the tools available from Eurostat and other SDMX sponsors.
This training course does not assume any specific knowledge of information technologies, but a previous reading of the SDMX User Guide (available on the SDMX web site at http://sdmx.org/?page_id=38) would be useful.
The draft programme includes:
- Introduction to SDMX: background, statistical relevance, information mode.l
- Data Structure Definitions (DSD) and Metadata Structure Definitions (MSD).
- The SDMX specifications for data messages.
- The SDMX Registry.
- Hands on session with the Data Structure Wizard.
- How to produce SDMX data files according to a DSD.
- Examples of data files and data conversions
While the participation is free of charge, the number of places is limited. Places will be reserved on a first come – first served basis with priority to countries that did not attend the previous sessions.
Interested participants can reserve participation by sending an e-mail to marco.pellegrino@ec.europa.eu with morag.reinert-irving@ec.europa.eu in copy as soon as possible. Participants are also required to clearly specify which course they wish to take part in: SDMX basics, SDMX for developers - .NET or JAVA.
