German Cebit organiser to boost Basque Country open technology conference

The German trade fair organiser Deutsche Messe and the Basque Country open source trade group ESLE will jointly organise the next two LibreCon events, in November 2018 and 2020. The organisations aim to boost the “international positioning of the Basque open source technologies sector,” a press release said.

LibreCon is set to become “Southern Europe's leading confab in the field of free technologies,” Deutsche Messe AG said in its press release on 30 November. The German company is the organiser of Cebit, Europe’s largest technology fair.

The agreement, signed in Bilbao on 28 November, covers two instances of LibreCon, in November 2018 and November 2020 respectively.

From the press release:
“The signing was witnessed by SPRI Director of Technology and Innovation Aitor Cobanera, the Provincial Councilor for Public Administration and Relations, Ibone Bengoetxea, and a member from Bilbao city council – institutions which have indicated their support for the agreement.”

“This will make LibreCon a European reference,” ESLE (the Association of Free Technologies and Open Knowledge Companies of Euskadi/Basque Country) said in a statement on the LibreCon website. “In 2018, we hope to bring together more than 2,500 professionals showing the most remarkable and inspiring projects of international, national and local companies linked to the use of free technologies in different fields: IOT, Intelligent Machines, Future Mobility, Digital Transformation, Cybersecurity, applied to the industrial sector, public sector and the financial sector,” ESLE said.

The Librecon conference has been organised annually since 2012, by Spain’s National Federation of Free Software Companies (Asolif). It has been held in several cities; Malaga (2010), Zaragoza (2011), Bilbao (in 2014 and 2016), and Santiago de Compostela (in 2015 and 2017).
