Section 2.1 and in particular paragraph 2.1.6 could be enriched as follows. “2.1.6 CERIF CERIF is an EU recommendation to Member states for interoperability of research information. The CERIF specification is maintained by EuroCRIS (www.eurocris.org) and contains a conceptual E-R model, a logical relational model, the CERIF XML exchange format and a set of standard vocabularies (many re-use existing vocabularies), most recently a first version of a CERIF ontology and vocabulary (http://www.eurocris.org/neologism/cerif). CERIF is currently being supported by various commercial products and runs in more than 150 institutional systems across Europe and 10 national systems. CERIF is commonly used to represent data set metadata (including rich contextual metadata). Examples are the FP7 ENGAGE project (www.engage-project.eu), developing an infrastructure for open linked governmental data provision to research communities and citizens, where CERIF is being used as the common metadata format, used to generated DCAT. Furthermore, the EU-funded OpenAIRE infrastructure (projects OpenAIRE and OpenAIREplus) for research publications data sets, funding information and their linkage, the CERIF for data sets (C4D) project.
