We would like to announce the update of the DCAT Application Profile for data portals in Europe (DCAT-AP) and share with you the highlights of this release!
What’s new?
This new version 1.2.1 implements bug fix changes to DCAT-AP version 1.2 addressing comments received via GitHub:
1. Updated references to Publications Office Metadata Registry in DCAT-AP v1.2.1 published .DOC, .PDF and .ODT, as mentioned in DCAT-AP-54:
- Updated references 21-27 and 41 to point from Metadata Registry (MDR) to EU Vocabularies.
- In Section 5.2 - Controlled vocabularies to be used, updated the entries in table column “Vocabulary name” (MDR-> EU Vocabularies) and “Vocabulary URI”.
2. Updated DCAT-AP UML schema as in DCAT-AP-50, by changing the order of startDate and endDate in dct:PeriodOfTime . The diagram was updated in DCAT-AP v1.2.1 published .SVG, .DOC, .PDF and .ODT.

What was the process?
In April 2018, the ISA² Programme of the European Commission started the bug fix release cycle for DCAT-AP aiming to address requests for change received by users through the GitHub repository. A public review was organised in line with the Change and Release Management Policy for DCAT-AP. DCAT-AP Working Group members and users were invited to share their comments by the 24th of May 2019.
What's next?
The other open issues which were not covered in this release will be discussed in the DCAT-AP Working Group as of June 2019 in preparation for the next major release that is scheduled for November 2019.
