During the SEMIC 2024 Conference in Brussels, the SEMIC Team conducted 10 insightful interviews with thought leaders and experts, now available on the Knowledge Hub. These SEMIC Talks cover a range of topics crucial to the future of digital governance and interoperability in Europe.

The discussions began with Mikko Mattinnen from the Finnish Digital Agency, who emphasised the importance of trust in cross-border digital transformation, particularly among Nordic countries. He highlighted how AI technologies can revolutionise digital interactions if trust and cooperation are maintained. This theme of trust and collaboration was echoed by Marianne Mauch from the Competence Center for Digital Research, who delved into the transformative potential of knowledge graphs in digitising legal services. She stressed that AI must be trained on standardised knowledge graphs to ensure reliability and trustworthiness, showcasing the intersection of legal services and digital technology.

Building on the theme of standardisation, Alberto Abella from Fiware discussed agile standardisation to enable interoperability within Data Spaces. He highlighted the importance of basing standards on real user experiences and the role of AI in accelerating these processes. This innovative approach to standardisation can break down barriers and drive the future of data management, promoting user adoption and seamless data exchange across Europe.

Markus Richter, State Secretary for IT in Germany, introduced the "one for all" principle in Germany's digital projects, emphasising the importance of cross-border collaboration and digital inclusion. His insights underscored the need for innovative governance strategies to create a more interconnected and digitally sovereign Europe. This idea of interconnectedness was further explored by Philippe Van Damme from the European Commission, who discussed the transformative impact of data and technology on EU policy-making. He highlighted how proactive digital strategies and interoperability are shaping the future of European governance, enhancing data quality, and promoting efficient policy-making.
