Fedict uses a command-line DCAT-AP validator and other tools for harvesting local open data portals, and for updating the data.gov.be portal. A dump of all the metadata is available on github.

The command line DCAT-AP validator is an open source tool for DCAT-AP 1.1 developed initially for improving the data.gov.be metadata as an offline alternative to online validators. Following the validation action, the output is an HTML report with a list of subjects violating the rule.

The validation rules check: (1) mandatory classes and properties, (2) recommended properties, (3) the use of the EU Publication Office's MDR Authority lists (controlled vocabularies), and (4) best practices (e.g. language tags on literals).

The City of Ghent is long-standing publisher of open data. The metadata of every dataset it publishes on its data portal, Ghent Data Portal, is available through a DCAT feed. This feed also allows other data portals (specifically that of the Flemish government, the Belgian federal government and the European data portal) to harvest and aggregate its data.

Information regarding the provision of data and the benefits of re-using data is also included.

Mapping into the GeoDCAT-AP profile – a transdisciplinary metadata exchange format for EU data portals – the exchange and reuse of EU member states' spatial data and that of other European countries can be simplified and their quality improved. Moreover, all metadata is automatically translated during harvesting. For example, French metadata is automatically translated to German and vice versa, to simplify the Europe-wide search for data.
Another feature available from the portal is the search for place names, for the purpose of simplifying the discovery of datasets by means of spatial search criteria. To this end, con terra employs the smart.finder, a solution that allows rapid discovery and structured access to extensive, heterogeneous datasets. The basic data is drawn from such sources as the geographical names according to INSPIRE Annex I and open data from geonames.org, which are harmonised and combined with the aid of the FME spatial data hub. The INSPIRE-compliant OGC Web Feature Service that has recently been made available by the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) is also used for geographical names in the construction of this so-called gazetteer.

The service catalogue sets the basis for mapping cross-sector and cross-border services and initiate cooperation, enabling efficient and effective interaction between various public administrations (within nation and across borders) borders through the seamless exchange of data.

The service catalogue enables to evaluate and measure centrally the quality of the services across the public sector. It puts in place minimum requirements on national level for describing public services. Today, we do not have these standards in place.

The service catalogue enables a uniform presentation of the descriptions of public services on one platform, and it enables the Government to get an overview about the services it offers. This sets the basis for enhancing the coordination of the public services development. Moreover, the service catalogue is a prerequisite for implementing the once-only principle, which ensures that citizens and businesses supply certain standard information only once, because public administration offices take action to internally share this data, so that no additional burden falls on citizens and businesses in due respect of data protection rules. The service catalogue enables the mapping of cross-sector public services that are gathered around one activity and that could co-operate without burdening the citizens or businesses.
Additionally to the above, the service catalogue sets the basis for mapping cross-border services and helping to make cross-border transaction procedures quicker, simpler and cheaper for all parties.

The Estonian service catalogues is based on CPSV-AP, and it provides a description of its services in JSON format.

The development of the service catalogue, required the implementation of the concept of the service owners which reuses ISA specification Core Person Vocabulary.

The metadata is mainly generated 'on the fly' out of the central information model. Until the GeoDCAT-AP was published, metadata was only available in form of html, iso19139 XML records and CKAN json objects. With the help of the XSLT, which was published by the GeoDCAT-AP working group, metadata is now also available in form of RDF (content negotiation is used). Beside the internal metadata generator, there is also a CSW interface, which allows a live search in the Central German Spatial Data Catalogue (GDK-DE). An integrated webservice allows the transformation (iso191392rdf) of this distributed metadata. That way each spatial metadata, which is published in Germany, is available in form of a GeoDCAT RDF file (example: here).
