e-SENS (Electronic Simple European Networked Services) project is a new Large Scale Pilot (LSP) co-funded by the European Commission within the ICT Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP), under the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP). The consortium is composed of 22 beneficiaries representing 18 EU countries, as well as Norway and Turkey.

e-SENS was launched on 1 April 2013 within the ICT Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP), under the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP).

The aim of the project is to develop an infrastructure for interoperable public services in Europe. It will support the creation of a Digital Single Market by facilitating the delivery and usage of electronic public services.

The project will benefit Member States and public cross-border services by providing technical solutions to create interoperable, efficient and high quality services at a pan-European level. Furthermore, industries and national companies will access open source solutions to be used in their own business solutions, while it will be easier for them to do business abroad and making Member States more attractive places to settle and to do business in. Lastly, citizens and entrepreneurs will reap the benefits from public services which will improve their freedom of moving, living and doing business within the EU.

This is a very interesting project!  It touches the important (and difficult) subject of cross-border interoperability for public services, covering various domains.

Another interesting project, looking at cross-border interoperability of citizen-generated services based on open data is: http://www.citadelonthemove.eu/.
