EC ISA survey on its online open source and semantics communities

3/5 | 2 votes |

A survey on the functioning of online communities on collaboration platforms for public administrations involved in open source software, semantic assets, electronic government and the information society was just opened, on behalf of the European Commission's ISA program (Interoperability Solutions for European Public Administrations).

The survey is meant to analyse the functioning of online communities present on the Joinup, ePractice and Elanet collaborative platforms. The results are expected to be published in March or April this year.

"The idea is to better understand the needs and requirements of members of online communities of these platforms", write the Deloitte consultants in their introduction to the survey.

The consultants hope the results will help to make these tools reach their full potential and to better serve the members of the online communities.". "All the answers will be translated into actions, related to online community building, moderation, support and management."

The survey is part of larger study on how to support and manage Europe's online communities around interoperability issues. This study, titles "Community Building and Effective Use of Collaborative Platforms", should result in recommendations for the European Commission and the online community facilitators.

Apart from the survey, the study will draw on interviews with community facilitators and analysing the communities.
