Local Authorities, researchers, businesses and citizens met in Potenza (IT) on March 11th 2019, to discuss about smart requalification of public lighting, in the frame of the project Energy and sustainability for the Public Administrations, funded by the Structural Funds of the EU within the programme “Governance and Institutional Capacity 2014-2020”.
During the event it has been presented the Public Energy Living Lab initiative of ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development), in collaboration with AgID (Agency for Digital Italy), which aims at developing and implementing in the whole country a digital platform to collect, organise, manage, process, monitor and evaluate public lighting related data.
Some facts and figures:
- 11 million light points estimated in the whole country, of which 2 million below the efficiency threshold;
- 900 GWh is their estimated annual energy consumption;
- 30-40% is the estimated energy saving ratio, considering only the upgrading of the installations;
- 60-70% is the estimated energy saving ratio, considering also adaptive remote management.
The JRC (Joint Research Centre of the European Commission), through one of the use cases of the energy pilot project, executed within the ELISE(European Location Interoperability Solutions for e-Government) action of the ISA2 Programme, has started a collaboration with ENEA and AgID, aiming at contributing to provide a European perspective of the benefits of using digital platforms for the smart management of public lighting infrastructures.
