The JoinUp platform automatically interacts with a series of national and regional Open-Source Software Repositories (the “federated forges”) in Europe. These federated forges exchange information about their Open-Source Software (OSS) projects with the JoinUp platform. As a consequence, a search for software on JoinUp also returns a listing of the software hosted on these federated forges. In the search results you can easily identify projects are hosted on the platform and projects that are not.
A federated forge is an existing repository of open-source software that exchanges information (metadata) about its open-source software projectswith the Joinup platform, creating a pan-European federation of open-source software repositories. Joinup provides “federated” access to these open-source software projects from a single point of access, giving more visibility to the external repository and its open-source software projects.
On this page, you can see a list of federated forges and the number of federated OSS projects they host.
Navigate to the information on Joinup about a federated forge by clicking on its name in the list. The relevant description metadata of the federated forge will be displayed, together with all federated projects that are hosted on this forge.
