More and more public administrations and enterprises are turning to Munich's Wollmux. This open source tool helps managing document templates and forms, including the insertion of standard texts taken from multiple sources. A workshop organised by the city of Munich earlier this month "drew more attendees than anticipated", reports Kirsten Böge, spokeswoman for Limux, Munich's Linux project.

Apart from promoting the future development, the workshop aimed to increase the number of Wollmux users.

"The response was greater than we expected", Böge quotes Harald Kagerer, chairman of Frodev,  chairman of Frodev, a non-profit organisation with the aim to support the open source office community. "Participants came from all over Germany. This shows that the community is not only still there, but that the circle of interest has increased further."

Wollmux is originally developed by the city of Munich for use with LibreOffice and OpenOffice. It is also one of the more popular downloads at Joinup. The software is published using the European Union's open source licence, EUPL.

Munich's Limux project developed Wollmux to help managing the many hundreds of document templates in use around the city offices and departments. It is now used by many public administrations and business, that appreciate the sophisticated mail-merge function.

"The workshop has helped to make the future development of Wollmux more independent from the Limux-project in Munich. Complementary functionalities can be developed, using the Wiki. "This proves the sustainability of open source", Böge writes.
