The article highlights the transformative role of digital public infrastructure (DPI) in various countries, exemplified by initiatives in India, Thailand, and Singapore. DPI facilitates essential societal functions and services such as identification, payments, and data exchange through secure digital platforms. The significance of DPI lies in its foundational nature, complementarity across policy, process, and technology levels, facilitation of sectoral applications, and promotion of public benefit through government involvement.

Analogous to historical infrastructure developments like railways and roads, DPI positively impacts how people and businesses access services and economic opportunities while aiding governments in meeting constituents' needs. Pioneered by India and Singapore, DPI initiatives have led to innovations in data empowerment and protection, particularly in financial services. Amid crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, DPI enhances national resilience by enabling efficient social protection responses and ensuring inclusive access to public services and emergency aid.

However, the design and implementation of DPI must address challenges such as digital exclusion, cybersecurity threats, and personal data protection. Human-centered design and robust data protection laws help mitigate these risks. Initiatives like the World Bank Group's ID4D and G2Px provide technical assistance and financing to support DPI agendas globally, exemplified by efforts in countries like Indonesia, Nigeria, and the Philippines.

Furthermore, these initiatives contribute to the G20 Presidency's efforts to promote consensus on DPI, accelerate its development, and allocate resources to low- and middle-income economies. In an increasingly digital world, DPI plays a critical role in fostering resilience, enabling service delivery, and driving innovation. Developing foundational infrastructure ensures equitable participation and success in the digital economy for individuals and businesses worldwide.
