The Bratislava ID

The Bratislava ID is a portal for all the residents of the City of Bratislava. We created a platform for all the digital services that the city, its city organisations and potentially city boroughs (17 in total) can use to make access to digital services easier, faster, trustworthy, and more transparent. Right now, it offers an option to pay property tax fully digitally (with NPS over 90), buy a ticket for an outdoor swimming pool through a single sign-in, and collects all the links for city services provided through other websites.

The Bratislava ID was launched on April 4th, 2023. Within 2 weeks during the property tax payment season over 20 000 residents registered. Right now, we have over 27,000 residents registered, but the potential is much higher and the number will be growing with each new service we add. We are actively working and plan to launch the first online form for building permits in fall 2023, which sets the precedent for other forms the city provides as well, being almost fully replicable.

Our aim is to have all the services the city, its organisations and boroughs provide available at the Bratislava ID, transformed and digitised, user-friendly, accessible for all, effective, and ecological, instead of using paper. It is an open source solution we hope other cities would implement in their internal systems, by which we could potentially help digitise and set an example for the whole of Slovakia.

Registration only requires e-mail, name and surname, and a password. In order to use services where a higher level of safety is required, we offer 2 ways of verification - via national e-ID, or via nation ID number + birth number (which we are able to check via state data registry), by which we provide the access to digital services also to people who do not own/use national electronic ID (in Bratislava it is only used by 12.6% of residents).
