The Brno Open Source Declaration was created as a policy-driving instrument with two main objectives in mind:
1. To establish Czech National Open Source Program Office (Czech OSPO) in Brno, Czech Republic, and
2. To help other initiatives and projects in other European countries in similar endeavours.
In general, it describes the efforts to create a national contact point for Open Source communities both from public sector and academia and to help them develop its IT solutions in a more sustainable, interoperable and reusable way.
The Declaration consists of 6 action steps co-created with international Open Source experts from all around the world during the event called Open Source Driving the European Digital Decade held under the auspices of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 16 September, 2022.
The Declaration was already signed by more than 50 people/entities and it builds up on the special local expertise of the Brno region, where both public sector and academia are considered as leaders of using Open Source within the landscape of the Czech Republic.
