GNU Health

The GNU Health project provides the tools for individuals, health professionals, institutions and governments to proactively assess and improve the underlying determinants of health, from the socioeconomic agents to the molecular basis of disease. From primary health care to precision medicine.

We have created an end-to-end software solution which allows individuals to keep track of their personal health records, institutions and health practitioners, to manage offices as well as large hospitals, and governments to manage health and vaccination campaigns as well as to analyze underlying community health issues.

It uses state of the art technology and widely accepted standards for data protection and encryption, to ensure that the ownership of the data is with the user (and not 3rd party software vendor). It is a modular solution, allowing the user to tailor the installation according to their needs and growth. GNU Health supports international data exchange standards, such as HL7/FHIR or ICD10/11.

Documentation and training materials for GNU Health are publicly available. The material explains the solution, set-up and customizing.

The GNU Health ecosystem consists of a Health Management & Information System (HMIS), the Federation server (connecting the nodes), and MyGNUHealth, the personal health record (PHR).

GNU Health manages demographics; patient evaluations, hospitalizations, clinical history; genetic and hereditary risks; epidemiology and health center resources (stock, finances, human resources, pharmacies, laboratory...), to name a few resources. Computing power and data processing improve team work and optimize health promotion and disease prevention campaigns. For example, GNU Health allows quick identification of new TBC, Dengue or Corona outbreaks by showing the index cases in a map, in real-time.

GNU Health is a free/libre, community-driven project from GNU Solidario, a non-profit humanitarian organization focused on Social Medicine. Our project has been adopted by multilateral organizations to national public health systems around the world.
