Masterportal

Masterportal is an open-source software solution designed for the visualization and analysis of both static and real-time geospatial data through standard web browsers. Such a “geoportal” enables its provider to publish various data to numerous relevant stakeholders. The areas of application are manifold: Traffic-themed geoportals can function as routing tools for pedestrians, cars, and bikes while simultaneously providing real-time data on traffic lights and EV charging stations. Pure informative geoportals can provide data about the locations of schools, hospitals, and public authorities to the public. With a multilingual graphical user interface in 8 European languages, Masterportal enables all members of an international community to access the public data provided.

This versatile platform supports a wide array of open data interfaces, making it an ideal choice for a geoportal within existing or new geodata infrastructures. One of its standout features is its full configurability which enables providers to customize the portal to their requirements without the need for programming expertise. With this ability to customize its appearance, activate specific tools, incorporate data, and fine-tune the user interface, this feature-rich software emerges as a powerful open-source solution catering to diverse needs in urban planning and public information dissemination.

However, what truly stands out in the Masterportal project is its unique organizational foundation. This software is proudly supported by an “Implementation Partnership (IP) Masterportal”, a collaborative initiative comprising 42 public institutions from Germany and Austria, as of September 2023. Within this partnership, decisions regarding the Masterportal's roadmap are made through two committees, ensuring each member has an equal say in shaping both the solution's technical and strategic directions. The collaborative framework, coupled with a collaborative financial foundation as well as an active and engaged community, guarantees a sustainable, secure, stable, and forward-looking software product that is expected to continue to thrive in the years to come.
