We are happy to share a presentation of the first of a series of three webinars which focused on "Policy & Strategy Aspects of OSS in Public Administration" on 4th May 2023. The event, which took place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM CET, aimed to share valuable insights gathered from dialogues with thirty local experts on various challenges and solutions encountered in the field of open source software adoption in public administration. The webinar attracted a diverse audience and provided a platform for knowledge exchange among professionals involved in IT policy and decision-making within the public sector.

The webinar began with a warm welcome and introduction by Ciáran O’Riordan from OSOR and Monika Sowinska from the European Commission. Ciarán O’Riordan delivered a comprehensive presentation summarizing the outcomes of the interactive closed workshop on open source in public administration. The workshop findings covered a wide range of topics, including decision frameworks, procurement processes, effective communication with users, and budgeting considerations. The insights shared provided attendees with practical strategies and best practices for implementing OSS effectively in the public sector. Successful OSS initiatives were showcased by Francois Thill, Director of Cybersecurity and Digital Technologies at the Ministry of the Economy in Luxembourg, Nicolas Vivant, Digital & Culture Strategy Manager for the City of Échirolles, and Lucie Smolka, Open Cities Chairwoma. Paula Grzegorzewska from the OSOR team then discussed the economic impact of Open Source policies in the public sector.

The event concluded with a Q&A session and closing remarks from Ciarán O’Riordan. The OSOR team looks forward to the upcoming webinars, which will involve a mix of public sector, private sector, and service providers, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of OSS adoption across various sectors.
