FOSDEM 2023 was organised on 4-5 February, and the OSOR team joined the event in Brussels. Ciarán O'Riordan presented the OSOR project and the Interoperable Europe Act in the Public Goods devroom. The event recordings have been published and you can find the OSOR presentation video in the session description.

After giving an overview of the information available on the OSOR website, Ciarán presented briefly the upcoming series of workshops and webinars as well as the handbook that will be produced at the end of this on the topic of the procedural and policy aspects of using free software in public administration.

The session on the Interoperable Europe Act was split in two parts. The first part was a presentation of the overall goals and use cases along with the legislative context. This lead into a look at certain details of the text, namely, the clause on share and reuse (article 4), the definition of "open source licence" (article 8(2)(c)), and interaction with the EUPL.

The second part of the session was for questions and answers, with audience members asking about the scope, the interaction with internal complexities of national law, and many other topics. Discussions continued in the hallway afterward.

FOSDEM is the biggest free and open-source software conference in Europe, held annually in Brussels, Belgium. The event was started in 2000 and is organised by the free and open-source software community.
