The development of Corteza, an open source and federated cloud solution to manage customer relationships, exchange messages, and manage identies, is being co-funded by the European Commission’s Next Generation Internet (NGI) - a research and development grant programme. Corteza Federation will be made available in December 2020.

“Corteza Federation will resolve the need for high quality, standards-based collaboration with the need for cloud digital and data sovereignty demanded across Europe and beyond,” said Niall McCarthy, chair of the Corteza Project in a statement. Mr McCarthy is CEO at Crust Technology, the company driving the development of Corteza.

The low-code software allows users to easily build all kinds of applications that involve management of records; from public administration systems to health management to education management.

The NGI Zero fund supports strategic technology projects, “in particular the development of free/libre/open source software and hardware, and the establishment of open standards and open data.” The fund is financed by the European Commission’s Next Generation Internet programme.

By supporting the development of Corteza, the NGI Zero fund, managed by NLnet, a Dutch grant organisation focusing on open information society, wants to help organisations of any size, including public services, share complex data sets using cloud-based services.

Crust is making the current version of Corteza available as a Docker container. The source code is also available on GitHub, published under the Apache-2.0 open source licence.
