Oskari

Oskari is a framework giving its users capabilities to build multipurpose web mapping applications. It utilises distributed Spatial Data Infrastructures like INSPIRE. Oskari started out as the national geoportal for Finland and it still serves in that capacity in addition to other users. There has been significant development to enable tailoring Oskari and its applications. The available tailoring options are much wider than originally was envisioned by the team. The setup of the Oskari server has been developed over the years to be quite an easy task regardless of various web mapping services the server is intended to serve. Oskari still powers the national geoportal among multiple other services in both Finland and abroad.

Oskari has a large user and applications base both in the government agencies and in the private sector. The Finnish municipalities and non-profit organisations provide various map based apps to their residents from the Oskari based services daily. There are private sector organisations using Oskari and there are also a number of software consultants and companies providing services related to setting and developing Oskari further.

All this has resulted in Oskari becoming an ecosystem in its own right and driven by an active community of users and developers. The community and the ecosystem is supported via continuous development of the platform together with Oskari developers in the GitHub and it is being updated regularly.

Over time Oskari platform has proven to be a stable and robust platform supporting applications over many years and at the same being able to extend the support for increasing needs of the new applications.
