A policy advisor close to European Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes, Carl-Christian Buhr, will join the European Parliaments' Document Freedom Day event on 28 March. Buhr will give a presentation on the European Commission's policies on IT standards and on interoperability, with a special focus on the market for eBooks.

The event is organised by the Greens/European Free Alliance in the European Parliament.

Following the introduction by French MEP Malika Benarab-Attou, the event is divided into two panels and a discussion, each presided over by a different member of the Greens/European Free Alliance.

The first part, on eBooks, will be moderated by French MEP Sandrine Bélier. Three talks, including the one by EC policy advisor Buhr, will explore the importance of open standards for creating business opportunities in the eBook market and allowing access to public information.

The second topic, moderated by the Swedish MEP Christian Engström, is on the role of civil society in technology policy, with presentation by April and the Free Software Foundation Europe, both free software advocacy groups.

The Document Freedom Day in European Parliament will end with a discussion, moderated by Dutch MEP Judith Sargentini.

Announcing the program, the Greens/European Free Alliance writes: "The aim of the EP's Document Freedom Day event is to give voice to the movement for a free information infrastructure." The event will take place on 28 March. It starts at 16:30 in room 1G3 in the EP's Altiero Spinelli Building in Brussels.
