As part of ongoing efforts to improve government technology in the UK through adopting open standards, the Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Kelly, is leading the work to select open standards for our document formats. He has published two document format challenges on the Standards Hub. The document format challenges are descriptions of the problems that users face when they try to read or work on government documents. We are asking for ideas on how we should solve these challenges, including which technical standards we should use.

If you have some ideas about the open standards that you think could help, or any information you can share on the approach you have taken in your country, please post a response on these challenges:

We are keen to keep this debate transparent, so please give us your ideas by visiting the challenge and clicking on "Respond to challenge". Your experiences will then be posted on the Standards Hub.

The selection process is closely modelled on the European Common Assessment Methodology for Standards and Specifications (CAMSS). If you have already carried out CAMSS assessments on any document formats, it would be useful if you could share links to those too.
