In collaboration with the APIdays team, In this second event, the APIs4DGov project have organised a workshop and a networking event aiming to bring together API experts from the public and private sector.
APIs have become a foundational technological component of modern digital architectures, impacting every sector of the global economy. In the public sector specifically, APIs are a key enabler of the accelerated the digital evolution of government and its agencies. Therefore, the European Commission is currently conducting the two-year study “Digital Government APIs. The road to added value Open API-driven services (APIs4DGov)”.
The study investigates onto two main questions:
- Why governments should invest in the adoption of API technologies and, if yes,
- How they could adopt them.
Because of the importance of the networking aspects within the API domain, in collaboration the APIdays conferences organisers, the APIs4DGov team has organised two activities within the workshop:
- a networking moment (on the 4th June), aiming at bringing together API experts from the public and private sector.
- a workshop (on the 5th of June) to discuss on relevant aspects on the API adoption from the government.
The workshop included practical working groups on:
- the discussion and validation about standards and best practices identified so far;
- the identification of pain points and key barriers to implementing API best practices suited for government;
- the understanding of priorities for action amongst government API implementers and key stakeholders.
Slides of the workshop are available here.
The results of the workshop have been analysed and used for the final report of the project.
