EIF Perspective attributes of Re3gistry

General information

Name of the solution: Re3gistry

Solution's owner: European Commission, Joint Research Centre

Description:

Re3gistry provides a central access point that allows labels and descriptions for reference codes to be easily looked up by humans, or retrieved by machines. It supports organisations in managing and updating reference codes in a consistent way, so that all versions of a code remain traceable and properly documented, and do not change or disappear over time.

Type of solution: Generic tools

The Re3gistry implements the following:

Re3gistry implements the following EIF recommendations as explained below:

  • Recommendation 4 | Openness

The Re3gistry is a source of common reference codes,  hence it enables public administrations to use and reuse open specifications in relation to geospatial domain.

  • Recommendation 7 | Reusability

The Re3gistry enables the sharing and reuse of data across borders and sectors.

  • Recommendation 8 | Technological neutrality and data portability

The Re3gistry enables the reuse of software, as it allows for the same software to be used for multiple sets of reference codes used in different applications.

  • Recommendation 9 | Technological neutrality and data portability

The Re3gistry helps to ensure data portability by enabling the sharing of data across borders and sectors using reference codes.

  • Recommendation 11 | User centricity

The Re3gistry allows public administrations to set up a central access point that allows labels and descriptions for reference codes to be easily looked up by humans, or retrieved by machines.

  • Recommendation 16 | Multilingualism

The Re3gistry provides multilingual labels and hence contributes to the facilitation of the internationalisation of user interfaces.

  • Recommendation 17 | Administrative simplification

The use of the Re3gistry helps to simplify administrative processes, as it supports organisations in managing and updating reference codes in a consistent way.

  • Recommendation 18 | Preservation of information

Given that reference codes must be managed consistently, Re3gistry helps to ensure their sustainability over time, by ensuring that all versions of code are traceable and properly documented.

  • Recommendation 23 | Interoperability governance

The Re3gistry software also manages the registers of the INSPIRE Registry. These systems support the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive by
providing free access to over 5 000 reference codes in 23 languages that can be accessed and consulted by all public administrators.

  • Recommendation 30 | Semantic interoperability

The Re3gistry contributes to semantic interoperability by facilitating the exchange of data through systems and interfaces using common reference codes.

  • Recommendation 37 | Base registries

The Re3gistry helps to make authoritative sources of information available and easily exchanged by using reference codes.

  • Recommendation 39 | Base registries

The registers created with the Re3gistry software are themselves base registries. Base registries created by using the Re3gistry contain the appropriate metadata.
