This collection includes semantic and syntactic standards for building interoperable labour market applications. They can be used in services such as job search or job matching systems, career guidance services, big data analytics, and talent and learning management systems.

The Commission has launched several activities in the field of labour market interoperability, such as:
- ESCO, the multilingual classification of European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations
- Metadata schema for the description of qualifications
- The labour market metadata schemata project, financed by ISA²
- Development of common standards in the framework of the new Europass
- Development of a technical framework for digitally signed qualifications

Labour Market Interoperability aims to enhance semantic and syntactic interoperability in the European labour market by providing the relevant stakeholders with new specifications, technical solutions and services. It provides members with information on current and future European initiatives in the field. The collection also provides assistance to the stakeholders willing to implement and use those new specifications in order to make the European labour market more efficient in connecting job seekers and employers.
