We are pleased to announce that the first iteration of the National ICT Interoperability Framework (NIF) and the Information Systems Framework (ISF) for the Government of Malta are currently published for public consultation on the Malta Information Technology Agency’s (MITA) portal.

In essence, the NIF’s and ISF's intention is to guide the Maltese public sector in maximising the benefits and reducing the cost burden derived from all technology investments by introducing ICT resources that are flexible, reusable and interoperable.

The development of the NIF takes into account the European context by, among other things, adopting the definitions and introducing the principles and recommendations issued by the European Interoperability Framework (EIF) as directed by the European Interoperability Strategy (EIS).

The building blocks envisaged by these and similar initiatives are based on international best practice and technical experience acquired from MITA’s 20 years of continuous ICT investment.

Interested parties are encouraged to participate in the consultation process by providing feedback and comments to the proposed framework by Friday 5th October 2012 via email on consultations.mita@gov.mt.
