The UN recommends that the alphabetic codes set out in the International Standart ISO 3166 "ISO ALPHA-2 Country Code" should be used for representing the names of countries for purposes of International Trade.
Scope
Standard ISO 3166 sets its scope as providing a two-letter or three-letter alphabetic code for representing names of countries, dependencies and other areas of special geopolitical interest.
