DIGIT responded to a call from the Hellenic Open University to share insights, experiences and best practices that could be useful to the digital reform of the Greek public sector. In a dedicated conference that took place on Saturday 26th of February, three DIGIT colleagues teamed up with academics, governmental officials and students to discuss the digital future of Europe.

Digital Era in the Greek Public Sector

The expertise that the DIGIT colleagues brought into the conversation was three-fold.

Nancy Routzouni from the IT Investments Team, presented the vision for a digitally transformed, user-focused and data-driven Commission and acquainted the participants with the critical role of DIGIT in leading the digital transformation, seizing opportunities of the digital age, and efficiently addressing the multitude of related challenges.

Evangelos Tsavalopoulos representing the European Commission's Open Source Programme Office (EC OSPO) explained the benefits, importance and strategic role of open source in the European Commission. He also highlighted the value of open source as a catalyst for digital innovation and transformation for the public services at the EU Member States.

Victoria Kalogirou from the Interoperability Unit, introduced the audience to the Interoperable Europe initiative and the Interoperable Europe Academy. An initiative committed to support the public administrations in their digital transformation, to enhance the digital skills of the civil servants, support policy, service delivery and impact evaluation.

The presentations were met with great interest and numerous questions followed them. The willingness of DIGIT to be present and contribute to the education of the current and future public servants was very much appreciated by the organisers who encouraged further cooperation in the future.’’
