Draft Information Security Strategy submitted to government
The Finnish government should help to create a competitive information security industry, recommends a report by a task-force at the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The country should attract investments in this area, assess rules and regulations, and make information security a common digital component.
The country’s authorities could help by setting an example, the task-force adds. Public administrations should make their information security measures clear, and warn in the event of problems.
The draft Information Security Strategy was submitted to Minister Anne Berner on 10 February.
"If we want Finland to be the home for the most reliable corporate digital systems and services, we need to provide an environment that is more secure and with fewer risks than those of our competitors”, the minister is quoted as saying in a press announcement.
The 23-pages strategy suggests measures in five key areas:
- boosting Finland’s competitiveness in the digital market;
- ensuring a reliable EU digital single market;
- security standards for digital goods and services;
- boosting Finland’s information security expertise;
- helping communities and citizens to improve information security.
The working group included businesses and organisations specialising in corporate information security risk management. According to the ministry, the strategy is just one part of the government’s plans to help grow new digital businesses.
