The European Commission Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) is using open source tools for its interoperability testing. On Wednesday, the DG published a call for tender, specifying the eHealth test framework Gazelle and the healthcare documentation and ePrescription specification, implementation and testing tool Art-Decor as reference tools for its digital service infrastructure (DSI).
DG SANTE is looking for service providers that can help maintain these or equivalent interoperability tools. The test environment is to be offered as Software as a Service. DG SANTE also wants the service provider to be able to organise testing workshops, and to provide training.
Gazelle is an open source testbed dedicated to interoperability and conformance testing of eHealth systems. ART-Decor is an open source suite for the creation and maintenance of HL7 templates, value sets and data sets.
The 4-year contract has an estimated value of EUR 300,000. The deadline for submitting offers is 28 November.
Making Europe’s eHealth services accessible across-borders is one of the goals of the European Commission’s Digital Single Market strategy. This requires interoperability and standardisation of these services. The Commission’s actions for eHealth include offering support to Member States in developing cross-border ePrescription and patient information systems.
