Welcome to the EU Academy! For some years, DGs and Services of the European Commission and other EU institutions have turned their attention to e-learning as a solution to their training needs both for internal and external audiences.

Training services for external audiences is a little known area of the work of the EU institutions. However, there are a number of compelling experiences already underway – from training provision related to the sustainability of cities under the Global Covenant of Mayors, to training of young volunteers under the programme of the European Solidarity Corp, to training to policy makers on how best to incorporate the latest scientific knowledge within their policy briefs.

The EU Academy is a EU-owned online hub containing first-hand knowledge, high quality educational resources and valuable insights produced directly by the EU Institutions and Bodies, for professionals, aspiring professionals and EU programme participants who have professional and/or educational interests related to the EU, to facilitate the easy and smooth understanding and successful implementation of EU policies and programmes in a wide array of fields.

The EU Academy is the result of cooperation between the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Directorate General for Informatics (DIGIT). It was created in 2020 as a way of embedding the EU more deeply into the fast moving e-learning sector and thereby to show how the EU is a champion of digitalisation and innovation. These efforts have been boosted and have gained greater relevance and urgency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mission of the EU Academy is to provide a modern and engaging learning environment that can foster and improve the quality of the application of knowledge of EU policy in a simple, smart and inspirational manner. Its vision is to become the reference point for everyone working with the EU Institutions or participating in its programmes and initiatives when it comes to learning how to apply policy relevant EU knowledge to their area of interest, work or study.
