The General Directorate for State Modernisation of the French Ministry of Budget (DGME) has now provided 27 core components as assets to the SEMIC.EU repository.

The covered basic information items range from examination results to address, person and profession. They include models for delivery, geographical coordinate, dimension and currency conversion. However, all belong to the French initiative: 'Modèle de données communes'.

To illustrate the broad range of real-life objects that may be modelled using the French core components imagine the following story. Please note that your insights to any assets provided is highly welcomed and help to evolve the assets further. There is one forum thread dedicated to each asset:

A contract for a delivery may contain several contract line items and may be closed between two or more parties being situated in several countries. Whenever an organisation due to a specific event wants to apply changes to the contract, such as changing the currency to avoid additional costs, they will have to communicate with the responsible person.

The current French assets are based on the UN/CEFACT core component library and adapted to French requirements. For instance, the profession definitions reflect descriptions of ministries and governmental bodies (Ministry of Justice, Defence, Internal affairs, Ministry of ecology and sustainable development, INSEE, CNAMTS, GIP-MDS, DJO, etc.)

In a similar fashion to these modifications, asset agent Sylvie Colas hopes, these French examples of adopted UN/CEFACT core components may inspire other nations modelling their needs by using the UN/CEFACT Core Components Technical Specification.

French authorities are continuing to develop concepts in a roughly alphabetical order. Next up are Facility and Factory, to be published next week. Consequently, the assets will be added to the SEMIC.EU repository as they become available. All assets contain XMI, PDF, DOC, PNG files and are published under a CeCILL 2 licence.
