New interoperability solutions description template in use on Joinup

A new template has been launched for the descriptions of interoperability solutions on Joinup. This is the latest step in the effort of the ISA Programme to improve the descriptions and the quality of the thousands of interoperability solutions catalogued on Joinup. Users proposing new solutions are now invited to use the following structure in the description of their solutions:

  • General description: Overview, golden paragraph of your solution in a few words.
  • Needs that the solution addresses: What needs does your solution address or which added value does it bring?
  • Features that the solution implements: What are the main features that your solution addresses. In other words, how does your solution address the needs?
  • Typical intended audience: What is the target audience(s) of your solutions? Who are the end users?
  • How to reuse the solution: How can your end-users re-use your solutions (based on share and reuse)?
  • Standards used in the solution (if any): What international, national standard(s) or specification(s) are used within your solution?
  • Contribution of the solution to a policy (if any): Does your solution contribute, is endorsed, or was developed in the context of a public policy?

Thanks to this template, new solutions in the European Interoperability Repository will have high-quality and standardised solutions descriptions. In addition, the metadata for each interoperability solution remains compliant with ADMS to ensure indexation and maximum visibility of the solutions.

The first solution using this brand-new template is the Universal Business Language (UBL) from OASIS. Curious about the new template? Have a look at it and OASIS UBL here:

What is OASIS UBL?

UBL, the Universal Business Language, is the product of an international effort to define a royalty-free library of standard electronic XML business documents such as purchase orders and invoices. Developed in an open and accountable OASIS Technical Committee with participation from a variety of industry data standards organizations, UBL is designed to plug directly into existing business, legal, auditing, and records management practices, eliminating the re-keying of data in existing fax- and paper-based supply chains and providing an entry point into electronic commerce for small and medium-sized businesses.

In addition, the UBL syntax has also been used to create bindings with the Core Vocabularies. More information on these bindings is available in the updated Core Vocabulary Handbook.

For more general information on UBL, refer to the OASIS UBL entry in the catalogue of interoperability solutions on Joinup.
