The principal goal of this workshop, organised by the Publications Office in Luxembourg on April 14th 2016, was to bring together professionals working on data visualisation projects in the EU Institutions.

As a follow-up to the survey on data visualisation tools conducted by the Publications Office in 2015, a workshop on ‘Data Visualisation Tools in the EU institutions’ took place in Luxembourg on April 14th 2016.

Organised in connection with Action 2.1 of the ISA² programme, the objective of the workshop was to collect institutional experience on data visualisation and user requirements for data visualisation tools in the EU institutions.

The ultimate goal of this initiative is to develop a catalogue of reusable data visualisation tools to guide the user in choosing the best tool for them, and establish a community around it.

Agnieszka Zajaç, Nobert Hohn and Nikolaos Loutas opened the workshop by presenting the objectives of the event and the work done so far, emphasising on the importance of getting everyone involved and getting feedback from all the participants in order to achieve a successful workshop.

Subsequently, participants from different EU Institutions briefly presented their visualisation projects and engaged in exchanging experience and ideas in the following discussion tables: advanced tools for data visualisation, visualisation for geospatial data, data visualisations for user engagement and visualisation of statistical data.

Finally, the discussion tables’ moderators reported on the discussion outcomes, and the organising team closed the workshop by identifying several next steps.

All the information related to the workshop is available on Joinup, providing an entry point and overview of all the work that was carried out.
