The Portuguese Agency for Administrative Modernisation (Agência para a Modernização Administrativa, AMA) has unveiled usabilidade.gov.pt, to help improve the experience of public administration web sites. Usabilidade.gov.pt should ensure that government web sites, portals and services are standardised and consistent.

AMA’s Usabilidade.gov.pt project includes best practices for the construction and standardisation of web sites and portal structures. All of the code, information and tools are made available for reuse.

“Aimed at facilitating and assisting professional websites builders, this is a repository of usability practices, to be adopted in the portals and sites of the public administration”, AMA writes in its announcement.

Usabilidade.gov.pt includes tools for, designers, programmers, researchers and user/testers. Designers will find templates, manuals and typographical best practices, while developers will have access to code and files ready to be reused. For researchers AMA is making available documentation, best practices, concepts and methodologies. Testers will find checklists, to help them try-out new sites.
