During the COVID-19 pandemic, innovative digital solutions help public authorities use data to inform public policy and support epidemiological research. Critical digital infrastructure also means more business can be done seamlessly, securely and across borders.

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is helping create the Digital Single Market, a vibrant digital ecosystem where cross-border and cross-sector digital networks and services can flourish, by funding standards-based, digital Building Blocks.

These Building Blocks are basic digital components that can be reused in any European project. They are based on standards and often include open-source sample software and testing services, providing projects with technical support to deliver secure, compliant and interoperable cross-border digital services.

Connecting Europe’s digital services and infrastructure in this way means public administrations and businesses from different Member States can seamlessly interact, and citizens can benefit from digital services wherever they are.
