Artificial Intelligence (AI) researchers at the University of Malta are about to make the PQViz app available to the public. The app shows links and interactions between MPs and ministers, displaying written questions submitted by MPs and answers given by the government. The researchers are working to add other functionalities, including extrapolation of data, and displaying topic trends. The government of Malta has published a first set of 20 smart phone applications, offering access to eGovernment services. A second set of mobile government apps is scheduled for March next year, writes Malta’s Information Technology Agency (MITA). Malta’s Information Technology Agency (MITA) has opened 80 public wireless Internet access points at government buildings. On 5 December, the Wifi hotspots were officially unveiled in a ceremony at the Education Department. The Wifi hotspots are one of the components of Malta’s National Digital Strategy - Digital Malta. On 21 November, the government of Malta unveiled its Mobile Government Strategy for the next two years. The government of Malta has unveiled a National Cyber Security Strategy. The strategy provides the legal context to defend the country’s computer networks infrastructure and its users from threats. “This will serve as a framework to protect systems, networks and information on the internet, together with the people who make use of these services”, the government said in a statement. Malta’s Planning Authority has launched a smart phone application that provide online access to planning applications and can be used to report planning irregularities. The Republic of Malta wants to increase the use of eGovernment services by simplifying online processes and by creating a one-stop-shop eGovernment portal. The government will also increase training of public administration’s staff members. At the end of June, the government of Malta will unveil an eGovernment service that lets lawyers and legal prosecutors present judicial letters to the courts 24/7. The system will also offer electronic payment of registration fees.
