After a successful first edition during SEMIC 2020 and 2021, we are re-organising in the context of the SEMIC 2022 the 3rd edition of IOPEU (Interoperable Europe) Academy Corner to give the floor to young & promising students & scholars in the domain of semantic interoperability. In collaboration with Victoria KALOGIROU, Seth VAN HOOLAND, Georges LOBO (Interoperability, DIGIT), Joep CROMPVOETS (KU Leuven) and other experts and Academia, the Speaking Corner provides an excellent opportunity for juniors to showcase their research and network with peers and EC staff.

During the SEMIC 2022 conference, 10 successful applicants will have the opportunity to briefly present online their ongoing research (thesis, article, new proposal) and fellow researchers, experts and academics in the field will ask questions and make proposals to add to the policy and implementation actions at the EC. This way, students can get access to case studies, large-scale IT testing infrastructure or receive contact details of experts for interviews or working groups.

In this context, we would like to ask you if you could kindly forward this Call to potential students/researchers allowing them to give an opportunity to present their work during the prestigious SEMIC 2022 event. Your effort would be very much appreciated.

All students, researchers that have or are planning to have a research on interoperability and digital transformation will need to send their short abstract via the EU Survey.

Examples of relevant topics could be (but not limited to):

  • Data Spaces
  • linked data specifications
  • vocabulary development and alignment
  • metadata quality and cleaning
  • large-scale data integration and analytics
  • case studies focusing on specific sectors (such as: mobility, health, finance, ...)
  • critical analysis of policies, governance models, organisational & legal implications of semantic interoperability work by the European Commission or/and Member States

The deadline for the submission is Wednesday 16th of November at 12:00 CET. Submissions will be selected by experts in the field based on their relevance for the SEMIC2022 conference and community, the topic, innovativeness, quality and (potential) impact.

Participants will need to register for the conference https://semic2022.eu/registration/ and then to connect to the conference platform and present their work with the help of a webcam or physically if needed. More details will be shared with the successful applicants.

The research and profile of all successful applicants will be published after the conference in Joinup.
